This week we made green fizzy drink and cheese. The recipe for the drink needed to be changed so it tasted better but most groups didn't manage to get a really nice mixture. Some people are going to try this at home as their science experiment. Our cheese making was more successful and although it had a wee bit much vinegar it tasted quite nice. We plan to make cheese again and use vinegar this time.
Our two experiments were investigating how acids reacted with a carbonate ( baking soda ) and a protein (Milk ).

A Matter of Change
Kitchen Chemistry. We have been busy with our experiments for Kitchen Chemistry. First we learnt about the 3 states of matter and investigated where ice cubes would melt the fastest and slowest. So far we have made a PH indicator with red cabbage leaves and tested some substances to see whether they are acid, alkaline or neutral. Next we made popcorn and found how heat can cause change and in this case it was permanent. Our dairy day saw us do 2 experiments. One with milk, food colouring and detergent which created an amazing fireworks of colour. We also made butter by shaking cream in a jar until we had butter and buttermilk. These experiment showed how fat molecules behave when they are shaken and when they meet detergent. |
