Yesterday we had a powhiri to welcome our new principal Mr Tilby. The Kapa Haka group performed with Moana, Taniela and Liam from our room in it. This was a special occasion and Mr Tilby was presented with a korowai.

Term 2 is here. Let's hope the rain stops before we have the powhiri to welcome our new principal Bruce Tilby.
Watch this space for photos of this big event. And in case you haven't noticed autumn is here. This is the tree outside Room 1 that we take a photo of every Friday. Look at how much it has changed in the past 2 weeks while we were on holiday. Yesterday Liam represented Allenton and Mid Canterbury at the Canterbury Primary Schools Swimming Sports. He came 10th in the Year 5 Boys 50m breaststroke. A fantastic result. Well done Liam.
On Friday 16th March we went out to the Ashburton Golf Course to play 6 holes of golf. We have been having golf lessons at school with Matt, and now we had a chance to see how good we were.
We have finished all our writing and completed our wall chart. Everything is in the Courier bag ready to go to Papamoa School. We hope they enjoy our work.
For the next 3 weeks we are in our own classes for maths and we will be learning about Statistics and Data. Here are some photos of us working on interpreting data and deciding if statements are true or false.
We have been writing about ourselves in lots of different ways and all this will be shared with a class at Papamoa School.
Some of the things we have written about are our favourite words to say, others words for a lot and our favourite place at school. Lots of exciting things have been happening for some of the Room 1 students. Tomorrow Ryan, Annabel, Daniel, Lucy, Liam and Drew are representing Allenton at the County Swimming Sports. Good luck everyone. On Wednesday Casey, Moana, Lucy, Daniel, Oliver, Taniela, Liam, Lucas and Toby are playing in the Year 5 & 6 cricket tournament. let's hope the rain stays away and they can get a full day's play in. In the weekend Moana received the cup for the most point at a Highland Dancing Competition in Rangiora, while down in Timaru, Toby won the 60m, 100m, 200m and shotput at Aorangi Park and he is now going to the Canterbury Championships. And finally on Saturday Ryan, AJ and Daniel won a slow pitch semi final against Hampstead 9-7 so now they play in the final this Saturday. Good luck guys.
